Science and technology is the foundation and weapon of a powerful and prosperous country, on which countries rely for stronger national strength, enterprises for winning results, and people for a better life. Chinese president Xi Jinping has clearly defined Beijing as the national center for scientific and technological innovation, pointing out the direction for the capital's scientific and technological development.

It was under the wave of scientific and technological innovation that KIRI came into being. Jointly initiated and co-constructed by leading domestic scientists and overseas returnees who have successfully started their own businesses, Zhongguancun Development Group, HCCD, and directly governed by  Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, KIRI focuses on the layout of advancing science and groundbreaking technologies, especially in the fields of material, life, information, energy and environment. Rooted in Huairou Science City, it serves Beijing, covers the whole country, and devotes itself to building an industrial technology research and transformation base with global influence.

Looking around the world, we find that two organizations are at the forefront of science and technology. Taiwan Industrial Technology Research Institute, founded in 1973, has over 6,000 top technical R&D pioneers, accumulated nearly 30,000 patents, and created 273 companies, including TSMC and other listed companies. Alcatel-Lucent Bell Labs has won 8 Nobel Prizes since its establishment. It has 4 Turing Prize winners, 11 Nobel Prize winners, and more than 3000 patents. Our KIRI should not only learn from Bell Labs in gathering takents, but also create economic value and comprehensively transform scientific and technological achievements into products.

As a worker in science and technology, I deeply understand that scientific and technological innovation has far-reaching influence on the development of a country as well as the promotion of social productivity. Our vision is to build KIRI into a world-class R&D institute and industrial technology transformation base, closely integrate industrial technology and market opportunities to promote economic development and social progress at a higher level and in a wider scope. In the future, KIRI will continue to introduce international first-class talents and innovation teams, continuously increase investment in scientific research and development, gather international high-end scientific and technological achievements, accelerate knowledge dissemination, achieve in-depth integration of production, learning and research, accelerate transformation of scientific research, and pursue the great ideal of building China into a science and technology giant.
